Service Opportunities

Mission Ministries

Whether you are a first time visitor or a life-long member, eight years old or eighty, there are plenty of ministries at PCW that would love to have your help and vision!

To volunteer for any mission ministries, contact the church office or Jolene Patterson (Mission and Outreach Committee Chairperson)

Weekend Meals on Wheels

This program is growing and new opportunities exist. PCW delivers free hot lunches to people and families in need in the Washington city limits. We deliver two to three weekends every month.

We typically cook on Fridays and deliver on Saturdays. Drivers make 5-10 stops to drop off much needed food supplies to our most vulnerable population.

To volunteer to be a driver or a cook, or to see if you qualify as a client, e-mail the church at [email protected]

Community Garden

In our own backyard, we grow potatoes, sweet potatoes, spinach, green beans and more. Everything we harvest is donated to Loving Hearts Outreach, our local food pantry, to help feed the hungry.

Please submit your name to Jaime at [email protected] if you would like participate in any way. This can be planting, weeding, picking, delivering, etc.

The Harvest Table

The Harvest Table provides a free community meal every Saturday night at 5pm at St Peter’s UCC in Washington. Three to four times a year, our church helps prepare and serves the meal. Things are a little different right now with COVID-19. For the time being, we are limited to helping out only with cookies. Keep a look out in our newsletter for the next Harvest Table if you would like to donate cookies.

Loving Hearts Outreach

PCW financially supports our local food pantry, Loving Hearts Outreach. We also have a large number of volunteers who serve at their location in Washington. This vibrant ministry is always looking for more help at the facility.

To learn more about Loving Hearts, visit their website at www.lovingheartsoutreach.org/.

Coins for Chickens

For all those with loose change rattling in your pocket or purse, put it to good use. We are starting the Coins for Chickens campaign. For every $20 we collect, we can provide chicks (and training in their care) for African and other third world families through Heifer International. Hens can lay up to 200 eggs a year, providing a reliable source of protein and income. The collection container is located just outside the church office. Visit www.heifer.org for more information.

Worship

To volunteer for any worship ministries, contact the church office or John Anglin (Worship Committee Chair)

Choir

The choir sings from September to May (or so) and sings SATB (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) pieces. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at 6:30 PM and Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM. All singers are welcome and no auditions are required.

Special Music

Do you have a special musical talent and a desire to make a joyous sound to the Lord? Contact the office (636-239-3178) to arrange for you to share your talent with us. We have had a variety of songs and guest performers, including the bagpipes!

Technology

If you have a gift or interest in technology, our booth could use you! Two volunteers are needed every Sunday (one to monitor the sound board, one to control the livestream). Full training will be provided.

Greeters, Ushers, and Worship Leaders

For those of you who are not musical or technological by nature, there is still a service for you! We are always looking for friendly faces to greet our worshipers and hand out bulletins. We also include a worship leader each month to help Pastor Pat lead worship. Full training will be provided.

Christian Education

To volunteer for any Christian education ministries, contact the church office or Ian McCracken (Christian Education Committee Chair)

Nursery Volunteer

Our nursery is in need of one volunteer each week during the worship hour to work alongside our staff person. Charlie Ninness, our nursery attendant, puts the volunteer calendar together. All volunteers in the nursery are required to be active members who have had a background check.

Christian Education Teachers

All of our classes for all ages could use substitutes and on-call teachers. We have a class for five year olds to 5th grade, a class for 6th to 12th grades, an adult study and a parent discussion group. All volunteers for classes that include minors are required to be active members who have had a background check.

Church Life

To volunteer for any Church Life ministries, contact the church office or Nancy Sebastian (Church Life Committee Chair)

Hospitality Table

It is vital to our vision of Radical Hospitality that we provide refreshments and fellowship following every Sunday morning worship service. Serving and preparing for the table is easy and fun!

Cookie Baking

Every month, we bake cookies to donate the Infusion Center at Patients First. We could use help baking and delivering.

Property

To volunteer for any property ministries, contact the church office or Joe Hagan (Property Committee Chair)

Tables and Chairs

Our church is utilized by many community groups, weddings and church events. This requires setting up and taking down many tables and chairs, sometimes a few times a week. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Spring and Fall Clean Up

Twice a year, a work crew is organized to give our property and grounds a facelift. Please watch the calendar for the next Clean Up day!
