“16 Years Early!”

Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. – Romans 13:8

Dear Friends,

Are you prepared to party like it’s 2033?

Over the last twenty-five or so years, a cloud has hovered over our church.  During the early 90s, God provided the members of PCW with a vision.  The vision was of a new, spacious, fully accessible, highly visible property.  That property came to fruition in 1993 when we celebrated our first worship service in our current building in November of that year.

However, this impressive property did carry a hefty price tag.  And, the mortgage for our current facilities has been the cloud hovering over our heads. In 2014, we had nineteen years left on our mortgage.  That meant we would be chained to this debt until 2033. Over the years, our debt has darkened our hope, obstructed our ability to dream big, limited our ability to perform mission, and hung around our necks like a millstone.

On Monday, October 30, 2017, all that changed.  On that day, we sent in our final mortgage payment to complete our obligations.  The Presbyterian Church of Washington is now DEBT FREE!

Through the amazing generosity of our members and friends, we successfully reduced our mortgage from $430,000 to $96,000 in less than three years during our “Unlocking Our Potential” campaign.  Then, on October 15, 2017, we were able to cut that remaining debt in half through “Miracle Gifts” that kicked off our “Final Lap” campaign.  Then, on that Monday morning, we received a generous bequest from one of our Saints that put us over the top.

We made it!  Our only remaining debt that we have is to “love one another” as the Apostle Paul told the church in Rome.

So, let’s have a party!  A Mortgage Burning Party will be happening soon!  Please be on the lookout.

Congratulations to everyone!  Some of you have been giving generously to the Building Fund since the first financial campaign to break ground on our property.  Many of you are newer members, who never made the decision to build this facility, yet you answered the call and joined in with your Covenant Family to reach this incredible milestone.  We all owe each other so much gratitude.  Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!  Without the grace of God, without the call of Jesus Christ, we would not have reached this goal.

If you pledged to the “Final Lap” campaign, or if you still have a balance on your “Unlocking Our Potential” pledge, we ask that you please try to honor your commitment. Those funds will be used to grow our “Capital Improvements Fund” to be used for costly repairs and other property related projects.

Let us take time to thank God for his blessings and for this highly significant moment in the life of our Covenant Family.  And, let us thank each other for working together as the Body of Christ to achieve this momentous goal.

And, let us continue to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the call of Jesus Christ!

Blessings to you all!
